Little is known about the current Guns N’ Roses rhythm guitarist, Paul “Huge” Tobias. Probably born in the early 60s, around the same time as Axl, Paul grew up in Lafayette, Indiana and has remained a good friend of Axl’s throughout his life. In 1982, he moved to Los Angeles and sometime during that year he co-wr0te “Back Off Bitch” with Axl. He is also credited with co-writing the B-side track, “Shadow of Your Love.” He is listed in the Appetite For Destruction credits as “Paul ‘Let’s look for planes!’ Huge.”

Up until 1994, after GN’R touring member Gilby Clarke had been released from the band, Paul Huge, now known also Paul Tobias, was brought in to play rhythm guitar on the single, “Sympathy For the Devil” for the Interview With the Vampire movie soundtrack. It is said that Slash and Duff were not happy about Paul's entrance into the band due to the unawareness of Axl’s decision to release Gilby Clarke. To add to the already ill feelings, Paul was rumored to already have the “rockstar attitude” even though he hadn’t done anything yet to gain it. It is also said that there is now tension between Tommy Stinson and Paul for similar reasons. At the time “Sympathy For the Devil” was recorded, tensions were strong between Axl and Slash. Slash has said that Axl used Paul’s playing to record over Slash’s part in that song. Some say that this was the breaking point of Slash’s stay with Guns N’ Roses.

Since then, Paul has remained a loyal member of GN’R and will be featured on the upcoming album, Chinese Democracy. In 1999, he was credited with co-writing and playing on the track, “Oh My God” on the End Of Days Soundtrack. For a long while, Paul has remained somewhat a mystery to GN’R fans because before the House of Blues gig, there had been no accounts or pictures of what he actually looked like. Axl has said, “Without Paul, there would be no more Guns N’ Roses.” Rock In Rio 3 was Paul’s second show with GN’R and only the fourth or fifth show in his life. Paul played in various LA cover bands for a short time before he joined Guns N’ Roses.
